CHICKEN JERKY FOR HUMANS

Search “chicken jerky” and the internet hands you a wall of dog treats. This page is about the other kind — the kind made for people.

USDA human-food standards Whole-muscle chicken Not a pet treat

Yes, chicken jerky for humans is a real thing

Beef jerky owns the human snack aisle, so “chicken jerky” drifted into pet-store territory — most of what you'll find under that name is a dog treat. Fair question, then: is chicken jerky for dogs or humans? It can be either. What matters is which standard it's made to, and what's in the bag.

Chicken Butt Jerky is human food, full stop. A high-protein snack for people: whole-muscle chicken (thigh + breast), ground, formed into strips, and slow-dehydrated. 33–34g of complete protein per 2.5oz bag, 0g sugar in most flavors, and it's shelf stable. $9.00 a bag.

Human-grade vs. pet chicken jerky

The food-safety standard

Human chicken jerky is made under USDA human-food inspection. Ours is produced at our USDA-inspected co-packer Midwest Meat in Plainview, Nebraska (USDA Est. P-47928), with recipe development and quality control at our Fairview, Texas headquarters. Pet jerky is made to animal-feed standards — a different rulebook entirely.

The ingredients

Every flavor starts with whole-muscle chicken (thigh + breast), sea salt, our scratch-built spice blend, and curing salt. 11 to 15 real ingredients per flavor. No fillers, no "natural flavoring," no rice flour. Pet jerky is formulated as feed — it isn't built to an ingredient label you'd want to eat from.

The seasoning

This is the big one. Pet treats are deliberately bland because dogs don't need seasoning. Human jerky is the opposite: our six hero flavors are seasoned, salted, and spiced for human palates — from Mediterranean Fling to Nashville Hot.

So can I share it with my dog?

Please don't. We love dogs — this jerky just isn't for them. Every flavor is seasoned, salted, and spiced for human palates, and our spice blends, sodium levels, and curing salt aren't formulated for pets. Human food being made to a higher inspection standard doesn't make it right for a dog's diet.

If your pup needs a treat, pick one made specifically for dogs — and keep the Chicken Butt for yourself. More answers on the FAQ page.
